highlight
My second work for the exhibition is going to be quite different from the first of the child soldier, which was bold and

strong. I saw this image of an Afghan boy in a newspaper. He was taking cover from a Taliban gunfight, waiting for it

to stop. His face looked so haunted, that I want to convey that in my picture. I decided to paint a softer tonal

words by children
painting, using just burnt sienna and black paint, and to keep it quite soft apart from his eyes. This is an image that
I return to later with my collage 20. With that I reverse the image , using tracing paper.

Firstly I rough out the triangular   I start putting a soldier in behind   Puting in a stone wall with blocks

corner, and leaving the rest empty   Less is often more..... so I mix up   text rubble. It remains haunted
This makes him look very   three tones of burnt sienna, and   feeling. I like the hands and
vulnerable and isolated, just the   paint them on.   feet unpainted, so I leave them.
